As the iTunes holiday freeze is about to hit, we’re seeing more games sneak out on to the App Store, and one such game is X-Plane 10 [Free], the latest version of the long-running flight simulator franchise. Not only is realistic plane-flying promised by the game, but also several expansive regions, an improved combat system for planes with weapons, and 2-player online multiplayer with voice chat support. If you’ve never played a flight simulator, there are a number of tutorials along with a full manual to get you acclimated.
The game is free-to-play, but in a model that most people will ideally prefer from free-to-play, where there’s the ability to buy new planes with in-app purchases. There’s only one plane available for free, but this serves as a way to get new people to try out the game without risk, and to offer a way for people who want more content to get it. That’s a form of free-to-play I imagine most of the angry free-to-play detractors will find agreeable, right? The series has been around for a while, but with this free-to-play version, now’s as good as ever to try out this deep flight simulator, eh?
